John emphasizes litigation of complex trust and estate disputes, trust and will contests, breach of fiduciary duty claims, financial elder abuse actions, accounting matters, contested conservatorships, and professional liability. John’s extensive and varied experience in trust and estate matters is complemented by broad experience in civil litigation and appeals. Over the last 20 years John has implemented strategies to resolve matters at the outset, in many cases securing a complete dismissal of all claims through demurrers, motions to strike, summary judgment or anti-SLAPP motions. John is experienced at trial, in arbitration, and mediation.

Recognizing that the issues often involve family members, caregivers and fiduciaries, John focuses on developing strategies suited to the particular needs of his clients. Although similar facts and legal issues may be involved, the client’s interests are best served by using very different approaches depending on the facts behind a claim and the client’s goals for resolution. John frequently counsels beneficiaries, trustees, personal representatives and other fiduciaries regarding issues involving conflicts of interest, rights, duties and liabilities. John’s keen interest in law, and in the trust and estate field, started at the age of 15 and his personal experience with his father’s estate.

John graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1994. While at Santa Clara University he earned American Jurisprudence Awards in Wills and in Torts and was included on the Dean’s List. John graduated summa cum laude from San Francisco State University where he earned a B.S. degree in 1991 in Business Administration with joint concentrations in Finance and Banking, and a minor in Criminal Justice. While in college and law school, John worked full-time including in the management development department of a major semi-conductor manufacturer and an internship with the San Francisco District Attorney’s office. John has served as a court-appointed Arbitrator for the Los Angeles Superior Court. John is a Board Member and volunteer attorney for Kitsap Legal Services, a legal services provider to indigent and low-income clients.
